Photograph Bald Eagles w/ co-host Rick Lott. The eagles are nesting at Widgeon Point Preserve in Okatie, SC. We’ll meet there at 8am. There is a 3/4 mile nature trail loop there that we’ll hike.
After Widgeon Point, we’ll travel to the Cypress Wetlands in Port Royal, SC (11 minutes away). Here there is a .8 nature walk through a Cypress Swamp. Hopefully we’ll alligators, turtles, birds, as well as cypress trees.
After the Cypress Wetland, we’ll dine for lunch at the Fishcamp on 11th Street in Port Royal. It’s on the water near shrimp boats so there will be some opportunities to photograph them.
Bring your preferred lenses. Suggestions: A long lens for photographing the wildlife, a shorter lens or wide angle lens for landscapes, and a macro lens for macro. Tripods are also helpful. Use filters if you know why (what effect) you are trying to achieve with them.
Meet in the parking lot at Widgeon Point Preserve, 43 Okatie Hwy, Okatie, SC, 29909 (about an hour drive from Savannah, GA).
There are no fees for Wigeon Point Preserve or the Cypress Wetlands.
There are Port-a-johns at Widgeon Point Preserve, none at Cypress Wetlands, and restrooms at the restaurant.
Bring water, snacks, comfortable hiking shoes, rain gear for you and your camera, insect repellant and hat if needed. Check the weather forecast beforehand and dress for the weather and come prepared.
