The Griffin chapter of GNPA will host Georgia Lawyers for the Arts at the regular monthly meeting via Zoom on Tuesday, August 3rd at 7 PM. Attorneys Kelly Bray and Jayma Leath will discuss “Copyright Issues for Photographers.” This should be a very informative and important meeting for all photographers.

Kelly and Jayma will cover the basics of copyright law and registration and broadly address model and property releases; written consent for street photography; use of copyright-protected music on private websites and social media; and issues related to social media photography.

The presentation will run for 60 minutes with time allotted after the presentation for questions.

Speaker bios:

Kelly Bray, Esq.

Kelly has been the Director of Legal Services for Georgia Lawyers for the Arts for 4 years. She manages GLA’s legal services and oversees the Georgia and Tennessee PATENTS programs. Kelly has extensive experience in the film and television industries having worked for producers and international distributors of live action and animated productions. Her experience also includes six years with a boutique branding, research, and valuation company. Kelly is a member of the Bar in Georgia, New York, and Ontario, Canada.

Jayma Leath, Esq.

Jayma Leath is an Associate Attorney in the Copyright Division of Higbee & Associates and represents photographers in copyright infringement matters. Prior to joining the Higbee & Associates, Jayma was the Staff Attorney at Georgia Lawyers for the Arts and assisted numerous artists with their intellectual properties matters.

Jayma was born and raised in Rochester, N.Y. and then moved to Charleston, S.C. where she graduated from the College of Charleston with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Before attending law school, Jayma co-owned and operated several businesses in Charleston, S.C. including a small music venue. She received her Juris Doctor and LL.M. in Intellectual Property Law from Thomas M. Cooley Law School and then relocated to Atlanta to focus on copyright and trademark law.
