What do we, as photographers, have to learn from other art forms regarding composition? – Whether shooting wildlife, landscapes, flowers, or even people, there are elements that help photographers create an image that set it apart from snapshots. We’ll consider color, weight, balance, form, rhythm, impact, and other aspects that shape a fantastic photo.

Bio: Award-winning photographer Thomas Yackley’s lifelong fascination with the printed image began when he joined his high school newspaper staff in 1973. He’s been shooting digital and developing with Photoshop since 1999. He is a member of the Professional Photographers Association, Georgia Nature Photographers Association and North American Nature Photographers Association. He has over thirty years teaching experience.

Digital photo painting and photo encaustic are among his favorite techniques. The natural world is a major theme in his images. Besides shooting landscapes and wildlife, Thomas enjoys photographing families and teaching photo classes at the Alpharetta Arts Center.

Along with his wife, Robin, Tom is Co-Artistic Director of the Alpharetta Community Chorus and leads the Park Place Social Singers. Both groups are currently on hiatus.

Acclaimed photographer Greg Lawson described Yackley’s work as “lovely.” “I can see the musical qualities associated with your personal history energetically entwined in the imagery as well.”
