GNPA Fall Smokies Photo Weekend 2020
November 5 @ 4:00 pm - November 7 @ 11:00 pm
Registration Is Open
for this year’s Smokies Photo Weekend:
November 05-07, 2020.
Don’t Miss Out!
This year’s Smokies Photo Weekend will be very different due to COVID-19 Safety Concerns. We want everyone to feel welcome and comfortable during this pandemic. GNPA has a new COVID-19 notice which is part of registration.
Please read and accept the terms and conditions of the notice when you register.
This year we will only have field trips, beginning with a sunset shoot on Thursday evening, followed by 1/2 day and full day field trips on Friday and Saturday. We will be following safe COVID-19 guidelines which mean limiting field trips to a maximum of 12 people, using social distancing at all times (even when asking field trip leaders for advice or help), no touching or sharing other peoples’ equipment, and not carpooling unless with people you feel safe with. We will not have a Thursday night welcome, pizza dinner and speaker. There will not be a Sunday morning meeting with a speaker and live photo competition winners. Instead, you’ll have Saturday evening and Sunday to prepare your images for the competition. See the photo competition section below for more details.
This year we’ll have an online photo competition with 3 categories: Wildlife, Landscapes and Macros/Close Up photography.
You’ll have more time to edit and submit your images to the judges. Submission will be done online and must be submitted by 11:30 P.M. on Monday, November 9. Winners will be selected by the judges and announced no later than Saturday, November 14 via email, our GNPA webpage and GNPA Facebook page.
This year there will be ribbons and cash/gift card prizes for 1st place ($100), 2nd place ($75), and 3rd place ($50) in each category, and ribbons for honorable mention. Plus, there will be a $125 cash/gift card prize for Best in Show selected from the winners in each of the three categories. Winners will be announced Saturday, Nov. 14 via email, online on the GNPA webpage and on the GNPA Facebook page. Prizes will be mailed to the winners.
Join us to photograph landscapes, water, wildlife, flora, the historic structures and buildings that all have been preserved to reveal the rich tapestry of the region.
The Smokies is well known for its wonderful fall colors, but in November, the crowds thin out, the leaves change, and the forests reveal old growth trees, old structures, feeding bears & other wildlife, waterfalls, reflections, etc. In years past we have still had good color in early November. We have the privilege of GNPA members who have agreed to be field trip leaders and who will share their knowledge and love of both the Smokies and Photography!
As we get closer to the dates of our Fall Smokies Photo Weekend we will send out additional information regarding the Townsend and Great Smoky National Park area, including info on restaurants that are open (and whether dine in or take out, or take out only), and updated guidelines regarding COVID-19 safety measures. In the event of travel restrictions, National Park closing, or stay at home requirements, GNPA will make a decision on whether to cancel the event. Also, our normal guidelines for cancellations will be more flexible during this pandemic time.
