ADDING CONTACT DATA FOR
GNPA OFFICERS, CHAPTER COORDINATORS, COMMITTEES, ETC.

As a content author or editor, you often need to include contact information in your post, etc., to a GNPA Officer, Chapter Coordinator, etc.

Instead of putting in the static information to an individual, the new feature will always show the current information.

Instead of putting the data in directly, use this special “shortcode” instead:

[showleaders position="President"] {position} {first} {last} {email} {email-as-link} {phone}[/showleaders]

What the shortcode does:

It finds a position in the table to the right and then displays the field data using tags, i.e., {position} {email} {first} etc.  If the tag is included in the shortcode, the data in the table will be displayed in its place.

How to Use:

Start by Copying the following and pasting it in where you want the contact information to show.

[showleaders position="President"] {position} {first} {last} {email} {email-as-link} {phone}[/showleaders]

USAGE:

The is used to find the position in the table from which to pull the contact data. (Note that the position name is not case sensitive so “president” or “President” will work.)

NOTE: Tags in the following may show with an extra space so it will display correctly. Do not include them when you use a tag.

Use the following “tags” { } to show data from the table:

  • { position } – shows the title from the table
  • { first } – shows the person’s first name
  • { last } – shows the person’s last name

There are two “tags”that can show the email:

    • { email } – shows it as text with no link.
    • { email-as-link } – displays the email as a clickable link.
  • { phone } – shows the phone number if there.

To show less information, simply remove a tag, i.e., remove { position } and { phone }”from the shortcode and they will not be shown.

You can include your own text before or after a tag. For example, “Email: { email-as-link }”

You can also rearrange the order of the tags.

The final bracket is required.

Examples:

[showleaders position="President"] {position} {first} {last} {email} {email-as-link} {phone}[/showleaders]

Will display as:

President Bill White president@gnpa.org president@gnpa.org 999-999-9999

Removing { position } and { phone } from the above would display as:

Bill White president@gnpa.org 999-999-9999

[showleaders position=" Vice President"] VP, {first} {last} Email: {email-as-link} [/showleaders]

Will display as:

VP, Tom Wilson Email: vicepresident@gnpa.org

What to do if it doesn’t work?

If you do not see anything, check that the position= value EXACTLY matches the positon name in the table.

If you see code but not the data for the position, check to be sure your shortcode starts with a single [ and ends with ].

If that doesn’t solve your issue, email webmaster@gnpa.org for help.

Why do it this way?

Instead of having to go back in and find and change all the places this appears, the system will automatically up-to-date contact information.

When there are newly elected members, different people assume roles, etc., all that is necessary to update everything is to change the data in the table. The rest is automatically updated.

Result? Our members are not frustrated by getting links or contact that no longer work and no one has to laboriously go page by page, post by post, to update the information.
