Everyone please take note: this is a “can’t miss” presentation by GNPA Past President, Eric Bowles speaking on: A Judge’s Perspective – Tips for Contests and Improving Your Images

What does a judge think about images they see in photo competitions? What images are successful in competitions and why? What are subjects or flaws to look for and avoid? All judges are different, and each views images from their own perspective, but when they start evaluating images some common themes about what is good – and not so good. Learn tips from a photo judge and ideas to assess your images with a judge’s eye.

GNPA Roswell Chapter Coordinator Comments: At the request of several members, I asked Eric if he would have time to do image reviews during this session. Unfortunately, he would have had to remove content from this presentation in order to do so which was not preferred. However, as we were talking, Eric mentioned he has several classes scheduled near-term for everyone to consider that would not only provide image review feedback but also so much more. Here is the list:

Nature Photography Art & Composition: Chattahoochee Nature Center on March 11 (1:00- 5:00 p.m.). Attendees can bring their photos to this workshop for review as a part of the instruction. Audubon Bird Fest:
April 22 – Basics of Bird Photography with Zoom program April 19
April 29 – Intermediate and Advanced Bird Photography with Zoom program April 26

Note: the Bird Fest registration is not open yet so you will need to watch for it. I took Eric’s Audubon Bird Photography classes twice because I learned an enormous amount from the first time I took it such that I decided to return again the following year.

GNPA Expo: Eric is currently working out details for a possible field trip to Arabia Mountain on a weekday morning. Everyone would meet there for sunrise then walk to the east side of the lake for macro and landscapes. The exact date is not finalized but it would be one of the following days: April 17-20 or April 24-27. Details on the cost of the Expo/field trip are not yet finalized. I will keep everyone posted when more information is available.

Eric Bowles Eric Bowles is an Atlanta based professional nature photographer specializing in the southeastern states. As a photo educator, he provides photo tours, workshops and training both independently and as Director of Nikonians Academy.
