Oatland Island Wildlife Center will host a Photography Competition and Exhibit organized by the Coastal Chapter of Georgia Nature Photographer’s Association (GNPA) to help further the mission of the Oatland Island Wildlife Center of Savannah to provide guests with memorable experiences to help them make stronger connections to the natural world.

Open Call for Entries! In partnership with the Oatland Island Wildlife Center in Savannah, Georgia, the Georgia Nature Photography Association – Coastal Chapter is organizing a 3rd Annual Nature Photography Competition and Exhibit. The categories for this year’s competition will be Coastal Nature (Landscapes and/or Wildlife), Nature in Black and White, Nature in Digital/Fine Art, and ‘Found at Oatland Island Wildlife Center’. This Competition will be open to GNPA members only.

This exhibit will highlight nature and wildlife and therefore supplement Oatland Island’s mission to educate people about wildlife.  All images must be taken in the Southeast United States by the participant / photographer.

This year’s judges will be Eric Bowles and Horace Hamilton!

Eric Bowles is the President of the GNPA (2020), Past Board member of the GNPA, Director of Nikonians Academy of North America, and Board member of NANPA.

Eric is a full-time professional photographer specializing in nature photography, primarily in the Southeastern USA. He serves as an instructor for his own workshops and private instruction as well as for speaking engagements for the GNPA and other organizations. He is a dedicated member of the GNPA who is always willing to help the organization as well as the people in it. He has served as a judge for this competition as well as many others. His teaching style is both down to earth, exciting, and very informative. As president, he guided the GNPA through a complete migration to a new website platform and registration system and also through our the current Covid-19 pandemic.

Horace Hamilton is a Past President of the GNPA, Past Board member of the GNPA, and Past Chapter Coordinator of GNPA Gwinnett.

Horace is an award-winning photographer who has been photographing for over 40 years focusing primarily on nature photography. He has been a Canon shooter for over 40 years and currently shoots a 5d Mark IV, 1dx Mark ii and the new Canon R5 mirrorless.  He is the founding coordinator of the Gwinnett Chapter, currently the largest in GNPA.  In recent years he has been a jurist for several photo exhibits and competitions including the Booth Photography Guild, Blue Ridge Mountain Arts, Gwinnett Master Gardeners, Georgia Appalachian Trail Conservancy, Cherokee Camera Club, Sweetwater Camera Club, Southeastern Photographic Society, Atlanta Photographic Society and numerous GNPA events. Horace has also conducted several training classes for GNPA as well as presentations to camera clubs across the state of Georgia. Horace’s favorite subject is the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and its animals, landscape, streams and flowers.

Aside from working to improve his own photography, Horace’s primary focus is to assist other photographers in their efforts to improve their skills and to coordinate events to enable them to exercise their craft.
